Guess who turned 5?
Courtney is happy to be 5. She wanted to know what day she would go to kindergarten. She thought turning 5 meant moving to kindergarten. She also thinks turning 5 means a new carseat (she's after a booster with only a seatbelt).
Grace is happy to be 5 too. She wants to be able to watch scary movies and never have to go to bed again:)
Courtney chose a Barbie Butterfly Fairy cake.
Grace wanted a snake cake.
"The mommy snake is riding on the daddy snake and all of the babies are hanging on." is her description of this cake.
Birthday Fest started on Saturday March 9th and will continue through this weekend. On March 9th after the Pinewood Derby, we made a long awaited trip to the Dollar Tree for Courtney. She's been begging to go for weeks. She proudly left with a pack of construction paper and a little staple. The girl LOVES office stuff (paper, pens, staplers, sticky notes....)We went to birthday dinner (Courtney's choice) at a Mexican restaurant on the 9th. The girls loved their fried ice cream and the staff singing to them after they put sombreros on the girls' heads. On Sunday, March 10, we had a number of friends over for cake and ice cream. The kids had a great time playing. Grace's choice for dinner was Kentucky Fried Chicken. We went there on Grace's actual birthday, March 12, for dinner. She wanted "macaroni and cheese." The girl is a pasta lover to the core. She also requested that I make her "yummiest favorite dinner"-chicken lasagna. We had that last night on Courtney's birthday, March 13. Each girl got to choose her treat to take to school on their birthday. Grace took blue and chocolate frosted mini-brownie cupcakes WITH sprinkles! for her class and the next day Courtney took chocolate rice krispy rolls to her class. We have had A LOT of treats around this week.
Both girls were very excited to get their birthday money and go spend it at Wal-Mart. They are planning a trip this weekend:) We are having a birthday play day tomorrow since everyone is out of school. We're headed to Durango to try out their rec center, play at a favorite park, play on the awesome computers at the Durango library, go to the Discovery Museum and get a slush at Sonic! We have our priorities:) Too bad no Chick-Fil-A for lunch for mom!
Spring has arrived in time for the birthdays and everyone is riding bikes. Grace mastered the two-wheeler with no training wheels yesterday, and Courtney learned last fall before the snow came. My girls are growing up!
Each year as we celebrate their birthdays, I can't help but ponder on the day they both joined our family, and the incredible women who made it possible. Thank you Dominique and Deanna!
First Birthday Party with birthmoms!
