Celebrating 20 years of the LDS Church in Russia

Sonja, Jen, Jan and I
(we all served together in Moscow and lived together for a year at BYU after our missions)

On July 1, I was able to attend a reunion and celebration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' official recognition in Russia for 20 years.  It was so much fun to see people with whom I served and studied in Russia. I went to Moscow for the first time in January 1992-June 1992 on a Study Abroad program. I returned just over a year later to Moscow to serve as a missionary for our church and lived there from March 1993-July 1994.  I was able to visit the summer of 1996 when I was in St. Petersburg on another study abroad and then in 2003 when we adopted Joseph.  I hadn't seen some of those in attendance for 19 years.  It was amazing to serve with these missionaries and even more amazing to see where they are in their lives today.  What a blessing it was and is to be a part of such a great group! The reunion was Friday night at a park in Salt Lake and on Saturday some of the sisters gathered together for a luncheon.

Enjoying ourselves at Goodwood Barbeque

Liisa, Kim (I taught her Russian in the MTC, she served in Moscow and we even shared some companions! BTW, she's now a doctor!), Jan (MTC comp, roommate after mission until graduation and close friend), Sherilyn (another of my MTC students who served in Moscow, I also taught her Russian lit at BYU, she's an amazing homeschooling mom!)

Liisa and Tiffany (another great companion from Moscow and friend from BYU)

Holly and Liisa (Holly was a roommate at the Russian house at BYU after my mission)

Nancy and Liisa (my first companion and trainer in Russia)

Visiting our friends the Carlsons and enjoying Seth's Legos
(we made a brief pit stop before the reunion and now we know where they live so we can visit again)
