Goblin Valley

Yesterday the family set off to explore Goblin Valley State Park. It's certified as located in the "middle of nowhere!" We drove 1.5 hours from our house to arrive there and we live almost 2 ours from a Wal-Mart. Yesterday we drove a total of 6-7 hours and didn't even see a stoplight until we got back to Moab. It was remote, rugged and beautiful. We'll take the short route back home next time, but we enjoyed the views on the long, scenic drive home. Goblin Valley State park is a huge playground for climbing and running and hiking. The "Goblins" are made of sandstone and go on for quite a while. You just kind of drop into a valley that includes this wonderland. Imagine discovering this for the first time as you are riding along on your horse looking for lost cattle! We loved it, we'll be back and we'd love for you to join us on our next trip.
Valley of the Goblins from the observation point where we ate lunch. If you look closely, you can see Kirill and Alex in the middle climbing on the rocks.

The boys setting off to explore. We we got there and they saw what we were going to climb/hike for the day, they ran off screaming "Yeaaah!"

Gracie was a little scared of the rocks. She was very proud of getting on top of this rock and Courtney was helping her.

Matt and Alex came down this crevice together. Alex was very proud of himself.

The walls of a canyon look like an ancient cathedral wall in Germany or Italy. Only these aren't carved by man, but by wind and sand and water.

Alex enjoyed posing for many pictures.

The kids pause to pose for a picture for mom. It was warm and sunny so everyone wore their hats and kept them on for the most part. A natural bench for a picture.

The rocks are very accessible to climb for almost everyone and especially Kirill, our little climber. There are tons of cool holes, caves and places to hide. The kids thought it would be a great place for hide and seek.
