Joseph's Field Trip to Telluride

Mountains surrounding Telluride.
Notice the road over Blackbear Pass snaking up the mountain.

On Friday, I got to travel with the 4th graders to Telluride. It was a great field trip, and I learned a lot about the area.  One only kid got sick on the bus (the road up the mountain is pretty windy) and the three classes were all very well behaved.  We took a walking tour with Ashley (a local guide and actor) who was very knowledgeable and entertaining.  The kids enjoyed his stories.  Then, after lunch, we got to do a scavenger hunt at the Telluride Museum.  It was a great day to spend time with Joseph and his classmates and teachers.

A huge thank you to my friend Deanne who watched the three girls so I could go on the field trip.  I guess it was my anniversary/Mother's Day present. On my birthday, I went with Joseph to Dead Horse State Park.  Wonder what my next exciting field trip will be?

Heading off on our walking tour.

San Miguel County Court House

Sheridan Opera House built in early 1900s by two brothers from Sweden.

First bank robbed by Butch Cassidy in 1889.
He and an accomplice stole $22,000 ($450,000 today) and walked out the bank in broad daylight with the cash in white canvas bags.  They escaped.

Joseph won a mustache for answering a scavenger hunt question.

Joseph and his classmates practice their mining skills.

Enjoying the presentation in the new amphitheater of the Telluride Museum.

Joseph's Class all mustached!

  1. I love Telluride. My family used to go there in the summer to escape the heat in AZ and it was such a relaxing place to go.
