Strikers Basketball

Since November Matt and I have been coaching Joseph's 3rd/4th grade basketball team.  We have two practices a week and one game. It's been quite the juggling act passing off the other four kids as one of us goes into practice and the other takes the kids home, but it has been fun to see our team progress. We started the season with 6 of 8 players who hadn't ever played basketball before!  One of these players included Joseph.  At one point he said, "There is way to much to remember in basketball...when to dribble, when to pass, not to travel, which man to watch and a lot more stuff!"  They've made great improvements, and we have played our best games the past two weeks.  Last week we only lost by 14 and this week it was only 11!  We have three more games left so maybe we'll secure that elusive victory before the season is over.  We'll keep you posted on the Strikers' success.

It's been hard the past few games and practices to keep the kids motivated because we haven't been winning or won at all. We've been celebrating small victories like a kid scored who hadn't and we held the other team to 8 points in the 2nd half, but it is really hard to keep morale up.  Helping kids deal with losing is challenging even when they are making great personal strides.  I guess its one of those things in life that will make them strong...but I'd sure love a victory in the next two weeks.
