- Matt (Our super Daddy, the hard work he puts in each day at work to provide so well for us, the hard work he puts in each night to work on his MBA to continue to provide well for us, playing Scrabble with the boys, loving his baby girls SO, SO much (it's good we started with boys) and watching his excitement as the kids succeed)
- Kirill (My big boy helper! today we went to lunch with him at school and while I got the lunch from the line for Alex and the girls, Kirill sat between Courtney and Gracie and fed them his little can of peaches from his lunch (he takes it every day) while being surrounded by 2nd grade boys. I love that he's not always "too cool" to take time for his sisters)
- Alex (His endless questions and funny comments. "I think things in my head and then I just say them." "Mom, What's a heck?" (as in "oh my heck" and no, I don't way this...). Always being willing to give me a hug and for his definite opinions on fashion and not caring what anyone else thinks-today he wore a vampire cape to school lunch with no concern that it would be strange...
- Gracie(her independent adventurous spirit, her mischievious smile (wondering what she has thought up and done), her love of "nack, nack"(fruit snacks), her hair and desire to explore)
- Courtney(her mothering nature over both Caroline and Gracie, watching her try on and walk around the house in EVERYONE'S shoes, her giant smile when Daddy gets home, and her love of her "wa-wa" (anything to drink).
- Caroline (smiles, rolling, sleeping, eating solids, being loved by all her siblings so much, her soft little skin and huggable body--she's never too busy for hugs or being held)
- kids still napping
- A warm house (it was about 10 degrees this morning)
- food (has anyone tried Edy's/Dreyer's pumpkin ice cream?)
- friends (and a telephone to stay connected with friends who are far away)
- hand-me-downs for my kids (what a blessing!)
- the double stroller from my friend Jamille (it died last week after 8 years of use (6 from her and 2 from me and my two years were almost daily)
- books (I just read There is No Me Without You and One Tattered Angel great reads)
- free things (we got to ride the new gondola this weekend at the ski resort. It was awesome, pictures to come)
- family-near(can't wait to see the family this weekend for Thanksgiving)
- family-far (will miss the family this weekend for Thanksgiving )
- As a side note, family near and family far have reversed places in the past year. Too bad it has to be so far between Utah and North Carolina. This is the first year I'll be spending Thanksgiving with my family in 13 years. I can't wait to eat my mom's food, but I'm already missing Phyllis' cranberry salad, sweet potato casserole and chocolate layer dessert...and I've been missing Vern's homemade biscuits and gravy since we moved.
- beautiful mountains and snow
- computers and digital cameras
- online shopping with free shipping (especially for Christmas since I have 5 kids to shop with and no "real" stores closer than an hour)
- kids still napping
- school for my boys (just last night at FHE they were telling me all about Thanksgiving and what they had learned at school when I was planning to tell them about the first Thanksgiving. They taught me a lot).
- school bus that brings my boys home so I don't have to wake the girls up from their nap to go pick them up
- great parents (for those who know mine, need I say more?)
- great in-laws (for those who know mine, need I say more?)
- a good job with good benefits
- good friends (you all know who you are...maybe I'll even get paper Christmas cards to you this year:)
- Kids waking up from their nap so happy to see Mommy:) better finish up they are stirring...
and last but not least BIRTH MOTHERS! Last night I watched the new show on ABC "Find My Family" where adopted children and birth families are re-united. This show was okay, but I much prefer the show on WEtv, "The Locator". I am so, so happy that we know all of our birth mothers, and we are able to talk to them and share our children as they grow up. Every time I watch one of these shows and see the reunions, I cry for the years that these people have spent wondering how their children are doing. I hope as an adoptive mother that I can always do all that I can to help our birth mothers know what is going on in the lives of the children they placed in our family. BTW, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Gracie's half-sister. Deanna(Gracie's birthmother) and Chris are patiently waiting for little Miss Lacy Olivia to arrive in the next week or so (Deanna's due date is Dec 2).
