Jr. Jazz Basketball

Mecham boys go to the Jazz game!

Alex and Joseph are both playing Jr. Jazz basketball this year.  It is Alex's first year and Joseph's third.  I am coaching Alex's team.  So far this year, we have won one game and been pretty much blown out the rest of them.  We've improved a lot, and I have some of the nicest (translate not aggressive) kids in the world on my team.  They are great kids, and I am very proud of my boys.  Joseph's team has done well, and he's improving each week. I have only seen one of his games because our teams have played at the same time for the past six Saturdays.  Matt takes Joseph and I take Alex.

Part of Jr. Jazz basketball is the opportunity to go to a real Utah Jazz NBA game.  We got to watch the Jazz take on the Golden State Warriors on January 31.  It was fun to go with the boys on the team.  Luckily for me, three other parents came along, and we were able to have a great time!

It was Jerry Sloan night. They honored him for his 1223 victories as the Jazz coach for 22 years.  Karl Malone and John Stockton were in attendance. It was cool to see them on the big screen.

Most of my team, including Alex, were more interested in buying food and eating than actually watching the game.

Joseph enjoyed the game.  He is old enough to appreciate the game and understand what is going on.  Two former Tarheels were playing!  Marvin Williams for the Jazz and Harrison Barnes for the Warriors.  It was Stephen Curry, a Davidson (also in NC) alum, who put on the show that night for 44 points.   Joseph has watched a lot of Tarheel ball with Matt.

  1. Such a neat experience, guys! When you are older you can tell everyone you played for the Jazz and then with the Jazz!
