North Carolina...Here We Come!

At out hotel in Grand Junction waiting for the shuttle to take us to the airport.
Dressing the girls alike really helped me keep track of them.

On July 17, we set out on a grand adventure to spend three weeks in North Carolina with our family and friends.  We drove four hours to Grand Junction and spent the night at a hotel.  The hotel had a great pool that we enjoyed and the kids loved watching "channels" on the TV (we don't have cable and get a few channels with our antenna, but mainly the kids watch movies).  The next morning we hopped the shuttle to the airport and set off on our two flights.  The kids did great on both flights. They were excited on the first flight and ate through a bunch of snacks.  Then they made the connection with great ease, and all fell asleep on the second flight, waking up just in time to land and get picked up by PawPaw in Charlotte.  Great travelers!

A few notes for traveling with five children and one adult.  We had the back six seats of the plane. It was perfect because we were next to the bathroom and could only really bother the one row directly in front of us.  Pack a small blanket for each kid in his/her backpack as domestic flights don't have blankets and the kids all used them on all the flights. Lots of snacks, books, coloring books and a game/Leapster with headphones.  Movie player would have been nice, but we don't have one with a charger so we did fine without one.  BTW, kids age 12 and under no longer have to remove their shoes in the airport!  We were prepared with our easy off sandals for all the kids, but were pleasantly surprised by TSA Family Lanes at the airport and kind workers.
