Escalante Days

On August 11 we were able to enjoy Escalante Days in Dolores. It is an annual festival that included a mountain bike race, watermelon eating contests, water balloon toss, lots of good food, train rides, Galloping Goose rides, and a parade.  We had a great time and can't wait to go back next year.  The kids favorite thing was getting not just one, but TWO snowcones.  Mom was feeling Oh! so generous:) and it was hot.

Caroline waves her flag while the other kids look for the next float with candy.

We rode the Galloping Goose on the 50 or so feet of rail that they have in front of the historical society.

The girls loved riding the train.  Courtney in the Ariel car.

Grace in Happy Feet.  She had great hair this day!  She HATES to have her hair combed.

Caroline rode in Madagascar.

Going round and round.

Alex got 4th place in his age group in the watermelon eating contest.  Look how giant his piece is!

Joseph also took 4th.  He had a pretty big piece too!

After watermelon, check out Joseph's shirt.

Getting ready for the waterballon toss contest.  Joseph and his buddy Alden were the most successful of the pairs.  Caroline (black shirt) and her partner pink dress didn't even make one toss:)
