Joseph's Pokemon cards were taken hostage in an effort to encourage him to learn his math facts. They have just been sprung! He has passed off all of his addition, subtraction and multiplication (all except the 12s) facts! I am very proud of him. He has until after Christmas break to master division. He does great at addition and excellent with multiplication (they are doing a lot of it at school right now).
For all of you moms who are just entering the math facts stage. Don't give in to crying, tantrums, or anything! Make/help your child master math facts as soon as possible because it won't get any easier and they need to know them. I was a bit busy with the girls when I should have pushed him, and Joseph is late in getting these all down. It makes homework and math so much easier.
Alex has passed off his 0, 1, 2 and is working on 3s in addition. I now know how important this is. And the kids in Joseph's class think I am truly one of the meanest moms because I took away all of his Pokemon cards until he learned them. I'm a hero to all of the other moms because none of them are as mean as Joseph's mom:)
