Everyone who reads this blog knows that our kids are all adopted, and that we have open relationships with their amazing birthmothers. We had a chance to have 3 of our 4 birthmothers together for Courtney and Gracie's birthday party. It was awesome to have everyone together. What more can you want than to have people around who love your children as much as you do! Many people find open adoptions strange, scary and weird, we find them just the opposite-normal, safe and delightful. Our open adoptions work because our birthmoms are amazing and respect us as the parents, and we respect them for the tremendous gift they have given our family! About a month ago, we were able to find out information and receive a picture of Kirill's birthmother in Russia. It is so exciting for us because we had very little information about her, and he wanted to know more because the other 3 kids birthmothers are very much a part of our life. We've now sent and received an email from her and hope to continue the correspondence. A very important, formerly missing piece of our family puzzle has been found, and we are thrilled!

liisa I think that you are amazing for keeping th birthmothers so involved I bet they love being a part of asa much as possible!!!

ReplyDeleteAwesome! We finalize our adoption of Leah in court in two weeks. The following week we will bless her and seal her to us. Her Birthmother, Caitlin, will be at the blessing and the luncheon after the sealing. She is such an important part of our life too. Thanks for your examples.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but giggle at the "mommy" comment. I can hear that coming out of his mouth . . .:)
